FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

What should I do after a car accident?

Call 9-1-1 and give them the information requested. If there is an emergency situation, let them know you need medical attention immediately. Make sure a police officer investigates the accident at the scene and does an official report. Having a police report is often important for your case. Also, get information on everyone involved in the accident as well as any witnesses to the accident.

If you were hurt in a car accident you should see a doctor, even if you don’t feel like you were hurt. It can take a few days for symptoms to appear.

Then hire a lawyer before you talk to the insurance company.

Do I need a lawyer for a personal injury case?

If you were involved in a minor accident where it is clear who caused the accident and there are no injuries, you might be able to settle your case yourself. But if there are any injuries, however minor they may seem, it is best to hire a lawyer. A lawyer can help by presenting your case in the most favorable way. An attorney can maximize your recovery by negotiating repayment of your medical bills.

Should I talk to the insurance company?

You should not speak to anyone other than your lawyer about your car accident case. Insurance adjusters may seem friendly and sympathetic, but they are trying to get information from you that they will use to reduce the amount of money they have to pay you or to deny your claim. Tell the insurance company to call your lawyer.

How will a lawyer help?
